The final version of the URSSA assessment instrument was developed under NSF grant CHE-0548488, Mapping the Extent and Character of the Undergraduate Research Experience at Public Research Universities: An Exploratory Study, funded by the NSF Divisions of Chemistry and Undergraduate Education, the Biological Sciences Directorate, and the Office of Multidisciplinary Affairs. Validity research was conducted under NSF grant DBI-1052683, Collaborative Research: Evaluation of Biology REU Site Programs, funded by the NSF Division of Biological Infrastructure, Research Experiences for Undergraduates Sites. We acknowledge the valuable contributions of the BIO-REU assessment coordinators Janet Branchaw and Julio Soto to this research and the work of Anne-Barrie Hunter, Heather Thiry, and Elaine Seymour in the development of the survey.
